Where does the time go? Summer is just heating up, and 4th of July is right around the corner. Many Boston families are getting ready to head out of town next week, which makes this weekend the calm before the proverbial storm — and a great time to explore the Boston suburbs.

Try Needham’s local food scene on for size during the Summer Local Food Fest on Saturday from 11am-3pm at Volante Farms. Continue the party on Sunday at 12pm during the local farmers market at Town Hall.



Think you have what it takes to become Weston’s “Gold Medal Family?” Find out Sunday from 2pm-3pm at the Memorial Pool via a series of games in the water and on land. Pool admission is required.



Kick off your Independence Day festivities with a 5-mile road race at Sharon’s Memorial Park Beach at 9am. Come back Wednesday for a bicycle and doll carriage parade at 4pm and family activities all night long.



Scoop up local produce, meat, cheese, pastries and other products while meeting the locals 2pm-6pm on Thursday at the Cohasset Farmer’s Market.



Head to Wilson’s Farm Saturday at 11am for a strawberry festival and stories from children’s author Lisa Anne Novelline. The Lexington Lions Club Carnival kicks off Tuesday, July 2, and runs until Saturday. 



Melrose has an awesome farmers’ market, and it’s open every Thursday from 2pm-7pm. Check it out for local produce and to learn more about the community.



There’s A LOT of fun family activities in Boston around the 4th of July—get started with a preview of the famous Boston Pops Concert. The show begins Wednesday at 8pm.



Explore the beauty of Concord and listen to the inspirational work of locals during a Nature and the Spirit Saturday at 10:30am. Meet the Hapgood Wright Forest.
