It’s All About the NYC Suburbs This Weekend!

Get out and get exploring at these family-friendly events and activities, happening all weekend long.

Fall is an amazing time to head to the NYC suburbs. From the beautiful foliage to cozy eats to the seasonal community events, there are tons of reasons to get here now—and to check out towns just like a local.



The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze is happening through November—and it’s a must-see for families. If you haven’t checked it out yet, we highly recommend going this weekend before it’s too late. Tickets are $23/adults and $17/ages 3-17.


The Chappaqua Farmers Market is renowned for its jaw-dropping selection of local produce and unique vendors. After hitting the market, stroll around town and grab lunch at Old Stone Trattoria or Pizza Station.


Learn about art from an artist herself during a special program this Saturday at the Westchester Children’s Museum. Starting at 11am, kids can participate in hands-on activities featuring artist Sandra Wong Geroux.

Rye Brook

Grab a picnic lunch and head to Crawford Park. Here, you’ll enjoy 35 acres of trails, gardens and wooded areas. We also recommend swinging by the playground and sensory garden, especially if you’ve got kids in tow.


Go on a guided bird walk at Otter Creek Preserve from 8:30am-10am on Saturday. Get ready to spot local wildlife and learn about migrating birds. Afterward, grab lunch at the Larchmont Tavern—and don’t forget to ask for an Etch-a-Sketch to keep the kids entertained.


Head to Pinot’s Palette on Sunday from 2-4pm to create a “Tacky Turkey” with your family. Kids 6 and up are welcome and canvases are $32 each. Collaborate and make one amazing turkey, or work solo on your masterpiece.


Make a magical reading wand at Lakeshore Learning Center from 11am-3pm on Saturday. Admission is free; ages 3 and up are welcome.

Looking for something for the grown-ups? Swing by Balducci’s in Scarsdale from 12-4pm to sample cheeses from around the globe. John Coleman, Balducci’s Wine & Cheese Buyer, will be hosting the event and on-hand to answer any questions.


Visit Life The Place to Be for a fun-filled day indoors. The facility features a soft play area, laser tag, arcade games, rock climbing and other attractions. Prices vary; soft play admission is $12.50 for 3 people.


Explore Rockefeller State Park Preserve to take advantage of its gorgeous foliage and 45 miles of scenic roads and trails. Families can bird watch, enjoy a picnic lunch, fish or go geocaching.

Briarcliff Manor

Paint pottery at A Maze in Pottery any time during the weekend. The studio has more than 300 items to choose from, with pricing starting at $4.



Head to the Roslyn Heights Farmers Market on Saturday starting the 8am. The market takes place in the Trattoria DiMeo parking lot. Be sure to check out local seafood options while you’re here—the market is renowned for it.

Port Washington

There’s a free Fall Fair at St. Stephen’s from 10am-4pm on Saturday. Stop by to enjoy a petting zoo, children’s carnival, pony rides, inflatables, local vendors and more.


If you give a mouse a cookie…he’ll come to Manhasset Barnes & Noble to visit with your family. Listen to the classic story and meet the mouse himself at 12pm on Saturday.



Little nature lovers will love Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center, boasting two miles of easy trails that wind past the center’s picturesque swamp, forested area and pond. Don’t forget to stop by the Visitors Center to learn more about local wildlife.

Short Hills

The Short Hills Street Fair and Craft Show is Sunday from 10am-4pm in downtown Short Hills. Admission is free—families will enjoy live music, rides, food and an extensive craft fair.


This weekend make a necklace or matching jewelry set for your family’s favorite American Girl doll at Just Bead Yourself. Walk-ins are welcome. We also recommend visiting Tamaques Park and its two playgrounds while you’re in town.


Learn about Dia de los Muertos by attending a free bilingual storytime at Watchung Booksellers from 10:15am-11am on Saturday. Presenters will read several stories, followed by a craft.


Enjoy the fall foliage and spend some time outdoors at Demarest Nature Center this weekend. Families can pack a picnic and traverse the trails while scouting for wildlife.


Create a wooden forest made from natural blocks at Oh Canary from 3pm-5pm on Saturday. Families can paint together; admission is $50.


Learn about the sun and its role in the world at the Reeves-Reed Arboretum from 9am-1pm on Saturday. Admission is $5/child and includes access to a loaner backpack filled with related tools.



Visit the Westport Library to celebrate Dia de los Muertos by watching a free showing of “Coco” at 2pm, followed by a craft at 3:45pm.


The Homestead Harvest Festival is from 12pm-3pm on Saturday. Come out to learn about Darien’s history and enjoy pony rides, a scavenger hunt, local beer, crafts and food. Tickets are $5/children and $10/adults.

Greenwich/Old Greenwich

Shop for gemstones and learn about fossils during the Stamford Mineralogical Society’s show from 9:30am-5pm on Saturday and 10am-4:30pm on Sunday in Old Greenwich. A donation of $6 is recommended for ages 12+. The Bruce Museum is also hosting a special event starring jellyfish at the Seaside Center from 2pm-3:30pm on Sunday.

New Canaan

New Canaan High is presenting Shrek The Musical, Jr. at 7pm on Friday and 2pm and 7pm on Saturday. Tickets are $15 or $18.


Celebrate fall during the Stamford Museum’s Harvest Festival from 11am-3pm on Saturday or Sunday. There will be live animal encounters, apple cider demos, storytelling, live music, face painting and more. Admission is $12 for non-members.


Learn about Native American life during the Colonial Wars from 1:30pm-3:30pm on Sunday at the Mill Hill Historic Park. A living historian specializing in the Algonkian people will be offering demonstrations and presentations for families.
