When Greg and Rebecca Young left Brooklyn for the suburbs, they weren’t just looking for a backyard and a few extra bedrooms. They were looking for balance, creativity, and space to grow—not just for their family, but for others, too. Now, two kids later, they’ve found it all in Ossining—and they’ve given the town something in return: a vibrant, community-driven co-working space that’s quickly become a hub for connection, collaboration, and, of course, great coffee.
From the Boroughs to the Backyard
Greg, a lifelong New Yorker and attorney with an office in Brooklyn, had always imagined staying in the city. Rebecca, who grew up in suburban New Jersey, was more open to a move. When the pandemic hit and their Brooklyn home started to feel smaller by the day, the couple connected with Suburban Jungle to revisit the search they’d started pre-COVID.
“We really wanted community,” Rebecca says. “But at first, we were just looking at houses—Suburban Jungle helped us reframe the process. It wasn’t just about square footage. It was, ‘Where do we want to build our future?’ That totally changed how we approached the search.”
Their Suburban Jungle Strategist, Allison Levine, helped guide them toward Northern Westchester—and eventually to Ossining.
“I’ll never forget what happened when we moved in,” Greg says. “In Brooklyn, the first thing our neighbor said was, ‘Welcome to the neighborhood. Don’t worry—nobody bothers you here.’ When we moved to Ossining, it was, ‘Welcome to the neighborhood! Here’s a fresh loaf of bread.’ That moment said everything.”
A New Kind of Workspace
Even as they settled into their new home, Greg and Rebecca noticed something missing—not just for them, but for their neighbors, too.
Greg was still commuting into Brooklyn a few days a week. On the other days, he craved a space where he could work without juggling nap schedules and snack times. “My office in the city had no windows. The energy was draining,” he says. “We wanted something better—something that felt more like home, but with the structure and creativity of a shared space.”
So, they built it themselves.
In 2023, they opened Ossining Riverworks, a thoughtfully designed co-working space tucked into a historic building in the heart of town. Big windows, exposed brick, community programming, and plenty of coffee (a must for Rebecca, who was pregnant at the time) created a place that felt personal—but open. Professional—but warm.
And it wasn’t just about work—it was about people.
“We wanted to create a space that brought people together,” Rebecca says. “This town is full of creatives, entrepreneurs, and professionals who were craving connection.”
Building a Village—Literally
The Youngs’ commitment to community goes beyond Riverworks. They’re active in local government, serve on the chamber of commerce, and show up for everything from planning board meetings to family festivals.
And their personal and professional lives are beautifully intertwined. The daycare their two kids attend? It’s next door to the office. “I can look out the back window and see the playground,” Greg says. “That’s not just convenient—it’s everything.”
Now, instead of choosing between family and work, they’ve built a life that blends both, without compromise.
A Space That Feels Like Home
For the people who walk through the doors of Riverworks each day, the feeling is mutual.
“All we ever wanted was to build something that gave people a sense of belonging,” Greg says. “Now, we see people working side by side, bouncing ideas off one another, grabbing coffee together—it’s more than a workspace. It’s a community within a community.”
And that’s what the Youngs were really searching for all along.
“Suburban Jungle really pushed us to take an introspective look at what do we want, what do we need and how do we get there,” Rebecca says. “I think before we narrowed areas down, we were just looking at houses. We weren’t looking for where we were going to build our future. Suburban Jungle helped us hash out what we needed and what was most important to us.”
