Moving to the suburbs means exploring all your new town has to offer – including recreational centers with a variety of programs, kids sports, playgrounds, swimming pools, tennis courts and even golf courses. These amenities make it so much easier to get out, get moving, meet new people and form connections right away.
That’s why we’ve rounded up some of our favorite town pools in Westchester and New Jersey where residents gather to dive in and cool down!
New Jersey
#1. Glen Rock Glen Rock Municipal Pool: This town pool has an Olympic-sized main pool with eight lap lanes, a 25-foot high waterslide, and a kid’s pool with gradual entry, sprinklers, and other fun water features. During pool breaks, you can head to the well-shaded Children’s Park Playground right next door to let your kids play and chat with other parents.
#2. Ridgewood Graydon Pool: Set in a seven-acre park, the residents-only Graydon Pool is set on a sandy beachfront surrounded by a fenced-in kiddie area, a playground, and a full-service concession stand. Kids can take advantage of swim lessons and a seasonal swim team, along with stand-up paddleboard (SUP) lessons and SUP yoga for adults.
#3. Millburn/Short Hills Gero Park: Millburn and Short Hills residents spend their summers soaking up the sun at the Millburn Municipal Pool. This recently renovated pool has lots of shade, plus a large gazebo and concession stand serving top-notch milkshakes. The recreation center also offers basketball and tennis courts, a playground and sports fields.
#4. Westfield Memorial Pool: Lap pool? Check. Diving pool? Check. A main pool just for play? Check. Westfield’s Memorial Pool complex offers it all, plus not one but two water slides, a zero-entry kiddie pool and splash pad, and a private playground just for pool members. And unlike most neighboring towns, a limited number of pool memberships are available for non-residents.
#5. North Caldwell Community Pool: Members can swim the day away at the North Caldwell Community Pool, but when they need a water break, they can play basketball, tether ball, shuffleboard, ping pong, corn hole, or knock hockey. Every September, all town residents are invited to the pool for a Town Picnic featuring live music, shuffleboard and a very competitive cornhole tournament.
#6. Montclair Essex Pool, Mountainside Pool, and Nishuane Pool: One of the best parts of living in this artsy enclave is the many town parks that are dotted throughout the community. Even better? Three of these parks have public pools for residents’ use—so no matter where you live in Montclair, a family-friendly, residents-only pool where you can beat the summer heat is just a short bike ride away.
#7. Maplewood Community Pool: Maplewood’s resort-like pool is the place to be all summer long. For commuters there’s even designated early morning hours from Monday through Friday, so people can get their AM swim in. In addition to a beautiful pool, training dive tank with an 11’, 22’ and 33’ platform, baby pool, adult Aqua Zumba and In-Water Aerobics classes.

Westchester
#1. Rye Playland Pool: The toughest thing about visiting Rye Playland is choosing whether to visit the pool, the amusement park, or the beach—or trying to hit all three. The recently renovated pool is zero-depth entry, making it a great spot to while away a late summer afternoon with other Westchester residents.
#2. Briarcliff Manor Law Park Pool: Law Park is a jewel in the heart of Briarcliff Manor, but the biggest attraction is the huge town pool and circular wading pool in the center of the park. On September 9, residents gather to take in a fireworks display poolside during the town’s annual Community Days celebration, complete with races and contests, food trucks, dancing, and a dunk tank.
#3. Scarsdale Scarsdale Municipal Pool: Sure, you could take your pick of country clubs to swim at in Scarsdale—but with access to the four pools, playground, gaga ball pit, and sand volleyball courts at the town pool, why would you? Throughout the summer, the pool hosts special events like Float Day and Fourth of July fireworks and offers swimming lessons and pool parties all summer. Non-resident memberships are available, but they sell out quickly.
#4. Armonk North Castle Pool & Tennis Club: Armonk’s town pool has lounge chairs, sparkling blue water, and lots of fun to be had. Events throughout the summer bring the community together, making it a great way to meet neighbors and make new friends.
#5. Harrison Harrison Meadows: If this pool and golf complex gives off country club vibes, that’s because it started as a private club. Now run by the village of Harrison, it offers amenities for the whole family: a pool, tennis, golf course, and a clubhouse with a full-service bar and restaurant. Annual passes are available for Harrison residents. Families wanting to swim can also head to the Ron Belmont Pool Complex in West Harrison or Bernie Guagnini Brentwood Park & Pool in Harrison.

#6. Hastings-on-Hudson Chemka Pool: When temperatures rise, Hastings locals head to Chemka Pool to cool down. This three-pool complex has a spray pool that delights little ones and plenty of seating to keep their grown-ups happy.
#7. White Plains Saxon Woods Park and Pool: The largest pool in Westchester County, Saxon Woods has everything you need for a dreamy summer for the kids: a splash pad, a recently revamped playground, and even a miniature golf course.
