Our Journey from the City to the NYC Suburbs

Justin Lane and his wife have lived in Manhattan for 15+ years, even navigating life with twins on the Upper East Side. Now, looking ahead, they’re ready to make the leap to the NYC suburbs and tapped Suburban Jungle to help them identify the right communities for their young family. The end result? A 10-town tour that left them primed to buy in a few top Westchester communities.

When my wife and I decided it was time to think about leaving of the city, we didn’t know where we wanted to move. We have lived in Manhattan for over 15 years. Now with two young children, we are finally ready to move from the Upper East Side to the NYC suburbs. We quickly narrowed our search to Westchester or lower Connecticut since they were serviced by Grand Central Terminal, close to our offices.

Having grown up outside Philadelphia and my wife in Long Island and Florida, we knew little about Westchester and Connecticut. We were so happy to find Suburban Jungle. Without their help we would not have known where to begin in terms of targeting specific NYC suburbs that aligned with our wants and needs.

We had a great introductory call withPatti NatissfromSuburban Junglewho helped us identify which towns may be best for us.

Our main factors for identifying which NYC suburbs to focus our energy were: commuting time to Manhattan, excellent school district, size of schools (we have twins so we didn’t want too small of a grade), and a town with charm. We want to live in a town with a sense of neighborhood, but don’t want to be too far removed from the city.

Patti’s insight about the different town vibes, schools and commutes were invaluable. She is so knowledgeable, helpful, and patient, and really helped us to identify what NYC suburbs we might be happy to call home. We toured towns, explored a variety of homes on the market, and drove by schools and through potential neighborhoods. The process was very helpful, and gave us an insiders feel.

We initially visited about 10 NYC suburbs, then narrowed down our search. At the end of the day we felt that Scarsdale, Edgemont and Chappaqua checked a lot of the boxes for us. We also identified a few other towns that we would consider if we found the perfect home there. Now we are hoping we find that perfect house!

The best part of all is Suburban Jungle does not charge a fee for its services—and during the urban-to-suburban process what, really, is free? Nothing!

I would highly recommend Suburban Jungle for anyone starting their home search, who isn’t sure where to begin the search. We’re happy we did and excited for the next steps.

Not only is Justin a soon-to-be suburbanite, but he’s has been a mortgage resource for many Suburban Jungle clients looking for pre-approvals or to move forward with home offers. Want to connect? Email us atinfo@suburbanjunglegroup.com!
