What we’re seeing – why 2024 is a win for buyers

One of the biggest signs 2024 is a buyer’s year? Mortgage rates have declined for the last seven weeks, and analysts expect this trend to continue. We’re also seeing signs of more significant inventory than in previous years.

“We’re constantly in touch with agents in more than 500 New York City suburbs,” says Allison. “They’re forecasting inventory spikes as high as 10-15% in some towns. That’s great for people looking to make a move. More inventory means more chances to find the right house – and, potentially, less competition when you do.”

What to Prepare for in the New Year

Whether you’re ready to actively search or just want to see what’s out there, take the next few weeks to explore towns on your must-see list. This time of year can be a great time to look – many communities host seasonal events, performances, and other experiences, helping you get in the mix with your future neighbors. And above all, don’t be afraid to join in the fun, ask questions, and get a sense of what life could be like post-move.

We also suggest test-driving the town by trying out day-to-day experiences. Wondering what your commute would be like? Take the train… get a feel for if the drive or ride is going to be something you are comfortable with. Curious about the community vibe? Sign up for exercise classes at a local gym… or take the kids to an art class. Are the locals friendly? Did you meet people who you “clicked” with?
