The Best Spots for Mother’s Day Brunch in the NYC Suburbs

May 4, 2023

Add a little celebration to your town tours. Grab your crew and indulge in some of the best brunch spots around.

We’ve always said the local restaurant scene is one of the best ways to explore a suburb. With Mother’s Day coming up, we’re doubling down — because some of our favorite suburban restaurants go all out to celebrate mom. While you’re exploring, grab your kids, your mom, or some of your friends and really dig into some of the best brunches of the year. Start here:

New Jersey: McLoone’s Boathouse, West Orange

For a memorable Mother’s Day brunch, head to McLoone’s Boathouse. Set right on the South Mountain reservoir, the views are as amazing as the food.

Here, brunch is served buffet-style, with everything from kid-friendly favorites like chocolate chip French toast and a cereal bar to create-your-own omelets, a carving station, crab cakes, and a raw bar loaded with shrimp, clams, and oysters. After filling up on your faves, take advantage of the family-friendly activities the South Mountain Recreation Complex has to offer: miles of hiking trails, paddle boats, miniature golf, a high ropes course, a pirate-themed playground, and, of course, the Turtle Back Zoo.

Westchester: Red Hat on the River, Irvington

Brunch on the Hudson River? Yes, please.

Red Hat on the River, a modern American bistro on the Irvington waterfront, is serving Mother’s Day Brunch from 11am to 3pm — and virtually every seat in the house comes with a spectacular view. Order a la carte (we suggest the Jumbo Wild Shrimp Cocktail or Brioche French Toast) or choose the $85 three-course prix fixe menu. There’s also a robust kids’ menu if you’re traveling with little ones in tow.

Award-winning executive chef Fréderic Kieffer is serving up a Mother Day’s brunch that’s unbelievably decadent — think caviar, oysters, filet mignon, and more. Brunch is served from 11am-3pm, or sit on the terrace and order the three-course prix fixe menu, which blends Provencal and American classics.

Long Island: Red Salt Room, Garden City

The Mother’s Day Grand Buffet Lunch at Red Salt Room at the Garden City Hotel is one of the most extravagant brunches we’ve ever seen. Here, celebrated chef David Burke serves up a stylish, sophisticated spread featuring a charcuterie and cheese board, carving station, pasta station, made-to-order omelets, and a dessert buffet loaded with decadent pastries, cakes and more. And it’s all served in one of the most stunning dining rooms on Long Island. Local tip: ask for a table near the floor-to-ceiling sea salt brick wall that anchors the room.
