The DC Suburbs are the Place to Celebrate the 4th!

Just outside the nation’s capital, the DC suburbs are ringing in July 4th in a big way…

Where better to celebrate the 4th than the DC suburbs? Literally, nowhere. All week—and weekend—long there’s tons going on, from farmers markers to fireworks to free concerts. Check out our roundup and get exploring!

McLean, VA

McLean’s free fireworks extravaganza is Thursday at Langley High School. The grounds open at 6:30pm and feature a DJ, food trucks and a grand fireworks display. On Friday, pick up local produce, jams, pastries and other goods at the local farmers market from 8am-12pm.

 

Takoma Park, MD

Takoma Park has a fun-filled 4th of July planned for families! The festivities start with a parade at 10am and continue at 7pm with live music, acrobatic performances, children’s games and live music. 

 

Kensington, MD

The Mid-County Sparkles are playing a free concert in Kensington on Thursday beginning at 7:30pm. Bring lawn chairs, snacks and blankets, and be ready to dance while waiting for the fireworks’ display at 9:15pm. 

 

Rockville, MD

Calling all music lovers and tiny dancers! The Rockville Concert Band will be playing your favorite patriotic, Broadway and movie songs from 7pm-8pm on Saturday in Rockville Town Square Plaza. The event is free.

 

Fairfax, VA

A staple in Fairfax since 1967, the town’s Independence Day Parade is a must-see! It travels through downtown Fairfax from 10am-12pm. In the evening, enjoy free fireworks at 5:30pm at Fairfax High. 

 

Vienna, VA

Enjoy daytime fun during Vienna’s Sprinklers & Sparklers event from 10am-2pm at the Vienna Community Center, boasting water slides, games, sprinklers and food trucks. That evening, head to Yeonas Park for a free fireworks display at 9:30pm.

 

Gaithersburg 

Bring the family to Smokey Glen Farm on Friday from 5:30pm-8:30pm for a crab and BBQ fest with mini golf and activities for kids. Reservations are required. On Saturday, mingle with locals and pick up local produce at 10am at Dogfish Head’s Summer Farmer’s Market.

 

Alexandria

Learn about the nation’s history during Mount Vernon’s annual 4th of July event from 8am-5pm on Thursday. The day includes military enactments and a special daytime fireworks display over the Potomac River.
