There’s so much to do, see, eat and discover in the DC suburbs. 

 

 

We’re all about the DC suburbs—but these amazing communities are especially fun in the fall. From festivals to hayrides to tons of haunted happenings, there are countless reasons to spend a weekend in suburbia. And, while you’re there, be sure to mix and mingle with local families. Bethesda, MD

Visit Locust Grove Nature Center from 2pm-5pm on Sunday for a spooky hike and scavenger hunt. Some trails may not be suitable for strollers, but others are ideal for little hikers—be sure to check with staff when you arrive. Admission is $2 per person.

 

 

Arlington, VA

Arlington’s Fall Heritage Festival is 1pm-5pm on Saturday. The event features corn husk doll-making, old-fashioned harvest activities for kids, plus live music. Admission is $5.

 

 

McLean, VA

Bring your furry friends to the McLean Pet Fest from 11am-4pm on Sunday. There will be a costume contest and tons of cool pet products to sample. 

 

 

Great Falls, VA

Go on a hayride then pick out the perfect pumpkin at Krop’s Crops. The patch is open Friday and Saturday from 11am-4pm. Families can also visit with farm animals, play in a corn bin and enjoy fresh apple cider.

 

 

AU Park (DC)

AU Museum’s Family Day is Saturday from 11am-3pm. Admission is free, and includes hands-on art activities, an art-themed scavenger hunt, storytelling and guided tours. 

 

 

Alexandria, VA

Go an art safari at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria from 12pm-5pm on Saturday. The festivities include artist-led messy crafts, including making paper mâché animals. 

 

 

Rockville, MD

Cabin John Regional Park in Rockville is offering Halloween Eye Spy Train rides on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-6pm. Tickets are $2.50 and the rides last about 15 minutes.

 

 

Silver Spring, MD

Get crafty during the Create Arts Center’s Halloween Art Spooktacular from 12pm-2pm on Saturday. The festivities include pumpkin painting, Halloween art, face painting, games and more.

 

 

Vienna, VA

Check out Halloween on the Green from 10:30am-12:30pm on Saturday. Admission is free for ages 2-10 and littles will love inflatables, a petting zoo, crafts, storytelling and hands-on demonstrations.
