Break a Serious Sweat at These Workout Hotspots in the Rivertowns

Mix, mingle and get your fit on at these top workout locations in the Rivertowns.

If you really want to feel good about yourself and life in the Rivertowns, you’ll need a work out routine that works for you. Between big and little gyms, yoga, tennis, Pilates and other calming, fun, sweaty routines, you should be covered. Here are some of the best places to work out in the area.

 

New York Sports Club

An affordable large-sized gym in Dobbs Ferry with daily classes, weight lifting machines, an indoor pool and sauna and access to trainers. They offer swim classes for kids and the boot camp class with Amy Westerby is one of the best.

Equalize Fitness

This gym is in Yonkers, but it’s close to many of the Rivertowns. This mid-sized gym offers classes, has weightlifting machines and gives you access to trainers for an extra charge. The gym is also next door and connected to a gymnastics gym with classes for kids, which could be a nice drop-off.

JCC Tarrytown

The JCC in Tarrytown recently built out a nice gym facility and fitness center and offers classes like Barre, Pilates and spin. The JCC also has two pools which are very popular.

House of Sports

House of Sports is large sports center in Ardsley mainly for kids that is somewhat similar to Chelsea Piers. But this facility also offers spin, Hit and Bootcamp classes for adults. The adult classes are organized by private independent trainers and business owners, which are not employees of House of Sports. Contact House of Sports for their info.

Hastings Yoga

This studio offers excellent classes for beginners to advanced yogis as well as kids. Located in Hastings on Hudson, the studio is owned Mary-Anne Mastreani, who is also a great instructor.

YogaWorks

Located in Irvington this is a yoga studio with varied classes from vinyasa flow to Hatha to restorative. The studio, with locations around the country, has been in this location for decades and it’s loved by the community.

CrossFit

There are two CrossFit locations, owned by separate trainers, one in Dobbs Ferry called BravoCrossfit and one in Irvington called CrossFit Valkyrie.

CrossFit is a competitive fitness program that involves weightlifting, high-intensity interval training, and gymnastics.

Soul Cycle

The closest soul cycle is in Bronxville, which isn’t too far and is worth the trip for many die-hard soul cyclers. As you may know, SoulCycle is an inspiring and very satisfying spin class with great music and a motivating culture. This studio is nice and clean and has showers and change rooms, too.

Pilates and More

If you are ready to get your stretch on and core tight, there’s a nice medium-sized boutique studio located in Dobbs Ferry with Pilates equipment and machines. The class sizes are small and the owner Valerie has an excellent reputation.

Orange Theory

Though not technically in the Rivertowns, this hot and trendy work out is attracting many residents. It’s located on central avenue in Scarsdale, which isn’t too far, and combines cardio and interval training to get you in a metabolic zone for losing weight.

The Fit Inn

Opened and run by a sweet husband and wife team, this small and cute gym recently opened in Tarrytown. They offer small group classes and personal training.

Tennis Club of Hastings

Right on the water, in Hastings-on-Hudson this Tennis Club of Hastings offers tennis classes and private lessons to members and nonmembers. Members can a USTA and MITL league, which will keep you fit and busy as well.

Boot Camps and Trainers

Megan Covington leads a great outdoor boot camp during the summer. She also offers private yoga, personal training, Pilates and prenatal fitness training sessions in your home too.
