Catching up with SJ Alumni – 3 Months Post Move

Sep 23, 2014

Thanks to our friends atBaby Does NYCfor a glimpse into the SJ process and alumni point of view.

The greatest part of our job at SJ is seeing our families settle into their new homes and neighborhoods. We know that moving out of NYC is a big step, and it’s so helpful to hear from our Alumni! We recently caught up with Sharon and Jason. They moved to Short Hills three months ago, leaving behind their Gramercy apartment after 7 years, that eventually grew too small for the now family of 4. It was a great apartment, but no match for a 4 year old and a soon to be toddler. Their family’s search with SJ began at the earlier stages. Working with our Director Patti and our local New Jersey Strategist, they were able to narrow the search to several towns. Sharon’s family is from New Jersey, so that was a big factor in location in addition to strong schools. The towns of Summit, Montville, Montclair and Tenafly were good contenders, but ultimately would find them a bit too far from very helpful grandparents.

When we discussed the process of working with SJ, Sharon felt that through working with SJ she was able to find that perfect town fit. When discussing her experience with house hunting in the areas, she noted “it was one less worry, as they put me in touch with someone already vetted and many of the brokers were parents living in the area” which was extremely helpful.

After exploring all of their options, in the end they chose a house in Short Hills, after feeling comfortable that all the options were explored. They looked at a lot of houses, but saw their now-home once and instantly put in a bid. After all of the evaluation and searching, they just knew it would be the right move in the right location. The town was a short ride to grandparents, with a train easily accessible to the city and great schools. The family is settling into their new home, and although they miss their favorite neighborhood restaurants La Follia and Pete’s Tavern, they are adjusting well to life outside of NYC. The kids love the space, and the free babysitting can’t be beat!
