August is a great time to get out and explore the Boston suburbs! Check out these amazing weekend activities, perfect for the entire family—and perfect for mixing, mingling and getting to know these communities.

Children ages 3-8 will love the Native Plant Trust’s Storytime + Musical Play hour from 10:30am-11:30am on Saturday.


Visit one of Concord’s most celebrated attractions, Walden Pond, for swimming, boating and hiking this weekend. The park is open 7am-8pm; parking is $8 for MA residents.


Explore the wonder of nature fairy-style during Fairyborough at the Discovery Museum on Saturday and Sunday from 11am-4pm.


Learn about life on the farm during Land’s Sake’s Open Farmyard event from 11am-1pm on Saturday.


Explore Weir River Farm’s trails and interact with goats, barnyard animals and make related crafts from 10am-2pm on Saturday. Admission is $10 for children without memberships.


Pick up local produce, flowers and artisanal pastries during the Cohasset Farmer’s Market from 2pm-6pm on Thursday.


Wonder what life is like on an urban farm? Find out for yourself during this urban farm tour from 10am-3pm on Saturday.


Wilson Farm’s Corn Festival is Saturday and Sunday from 11am-4pm. Sample local corn-on-the-cob, try your hand at shucking and play with a traveling petting zoo.


The Irish Trad & Folk Music Weekend is Friday through Sunday at the Irish Cultural Centre. Kids under 12 are free, and can enjoy crafts, games, an obstacle course and lots of Irish dancing.
