Get a taste of life in the Austin suburbs.
Austin Suburbs Farmers Markets: Between the amazing local food, kid and pet-friendly activities, and the live music, food trucks, there are countless reasons to check out these farmers markets when you explore the Austin suburbs. Plus, you’ll get a sneak peek at what life could be like if you decide to make a move.
#1. Pedernales Farmers Market (Spicewood)
If you’re planning to check out Spicewood on a Sunday, be sure to make your way to the Pedernales Farmers Market. More than 20 local vendors set up in the Pizzeria Sorellina parking lot each week, rain or shine.
While you’re here, scoop up some traditional Italian biscotti, fresh-roasted coffee, organic tamales, and crave-worthy treats from The Bearded Baking Company — then stay for live music and even yoga classes, held most weeks.
If you want to make it a full day of family fun, head into Pizzeria Sorellina for brunch. This family-friendly restaurant serves up a farmers market-sourced pie on Sundays, and there’s a playscape for the kids. You’re also close to Frontyard Brewery which has 16 taps of beer (plus fresh root beer for kids!) and a huge grassy area for lawn games.
#2. Texas Farmers Market (Mueller)
The Texas Farmers Market in Mueller is big. This local favorite has won “Austin’ Chronicle’s Best of Austin Farmers’ Market” seven years in a row, always called out for its excellent selection of local and sustainable goods and line up of events — think chef demos and dog costume contests.
This bustling Sunday market recently moved to a new permanent location inside the Branch Park Pavilion. The 19,800 square foot space is perfect for the 120+ vendors that set up in Mueller each week. Plus, now, it’s even closer to the park’s playground and splash pad, which is always a hit with the kids.
Not familiar with Mueller? This trendy suburb is just five miles from the center of Austin and has a more walkable, urban vibe than many nearby communities. It’s also a favorite among young professionals and families who aren’t quite ready to give up city life.
#3. Texas Farmers Market at Lakeline (Cedar Park)
The Mueller market has an outpost in Cedar Park — and it’s a must-see. Just like the Mueller market, this producer-only market focuses on bringing sustainable choices to the community.
Held on Saturdays in the parking lot of the Lakeline Mall, this market serves up amazing local food as well as live music and more — keep an eye out for Chow Hound Raw for doggy ice cream and K&S Seafood for Texas Gulf shrimp, for starters.
If you want to get more of a feel for the ‘burb, head to Twin Lakes Park after strolling the market. This local spot is perfect for an afternoon picnic or hike — Brushy Creek Regional Trail goes through the park.
#4. Lone Star Farmers Market (Bee Cave)
More than 40 local vendors set up each Sunday at the Hill Country Galleria selling everything from handmade soaps to hot sauce and quiches. And, of course, there’s live music — this is an Austin suburb, after all.
This market relocated from Lakeway to Bee Cave a few years ago but it’s still close enough for residents of both suburbs to enjoy. The Bee Cave location also makes it a good starting-off point to a fun afternoon — you’re close to Central Park, a 50-acre green space that’s home to a popular playground, dog park and walking trail.
#5. Barton Creek Farmers Market (West Lake Hills and Rollingwood)
The award-winning Barton Creek Farmers Market was the first in Austin — it started in the Whole Foods Market parking lot in 1987!
Fast forward to today and Barton Creek is still a popular weekend event for locals. Stop by this dog-friendly market during your search to take in the community atmosphere — and be sure to bring your pup, because this one’s dog friendly.
While you’re here, stroll through the regional stands (be sure to check out Native Roots Salsa and Texas Lavender, just to name a few) and check out the bands playing each week. After you’ve filled your totes, check out Barton Creek Wilderness Park. It’s within walking distance and it’s great for kid-friendly hikes. Also nearby: Barton Springs Pool, one of the top places in town to cool off.
