When the Clintons left the White House and headed for the Westchester suburbs afterBill’ssecond term, the entire world—and Chappaqua residents, in particular—took notice. Now they’re making real estate wavesagainby snapping up the adjacent property, a three-bedroom ranchthat sits, literally, right next door.
Is it the Kennedy compound in Hyannis Port? Nope. Is it the perfect weekend getaway for former First Daughter Chelsea and her growing brood? Absolutely. Rumor has it, Chelsea, her husband Marc Mezvinsky and their two young kids Charlotte and Aidan will use the $1.16 million pad in the Westchester suburbs as a weekend getaway. It’s close enough to their $10 million NoMad pad (where they count J. Lo among their luxe neighbors) and, of course, close enough to Grandma and Grandpa for plenty of quality time with the fam—and plenty of free babysitting.
So how does all this play into the Westchester suburbs real estate convo. For starters, it adds evenmorestar power to an area that certainly isn’t lacking. Chappaqua has drawn A-listers for centuries, since Horace Greeley—then the founder/editor ofThe New York Tribune—took up residence here. He was one of the first “commuters” and, today, his house is a museum. Today, plenty of writers, artists, actors and business leaders call Chappaqua “home”—and it’s these modern stars like the Clintons boost property values, especially if you happen to find yourself on their street or, in the Clinton’s case, cul-de-sac.
That’s not to say celebrities make the town—inevitably, stars choose picturesque towns like Chappaqua for the same reason “real” families do. The access, amenities and overall “vibe” are second to none. But, like any ‘burb, it’s important to understand the lay of the land and what makes sense for you and your familyright now.Drive through the towns, see what appeals and see what aligns with your wants and needs today and tomorrow and go from there.
The Clintons did—they’ve been happily holed up in Chappaqua for 17 years. And with a little help, yourfamily is next.
