See how the Atlanta suburbs celebrate the season.
The holiday season is in full swing – and, without a doubt, there’s something truly magical about the Atlanta suburbs this time of year. So while you’re exploring the ‘burbs, why not bundle up and dive into some of these fun holiday events and check out these amazing outdoor Christmas light displays? Start here…
#1. Roswell Winter Puppet Series (Roswell, GA)
Looking for a few laughs this holiday season? Don’t miss one of the puppet shows at the Cultural Arts Center. Trouble in Toyland runs from December 15-17 and Holiday Punch! goes from December 20-22. Both shows promise to be fun for the whole family and are a unique alternative to more traditional holiday stage shows.
Combine your visit with a stroll through the nearby Heart of Roswell Park to see the town’s impressive 40’ Christmas tree.

#2. License to Chill Snow Island (Buford, GA)
Embrace the cold at Margaritaville Lanier Islands this holiday season. With a winter chill pass, you can enjoy everything from snow tubing to ice skating. On the weekends, the little ones will even have the chance to get a picture with Santa.
Don’t leave without taking a stroll through the Lakeside Lights Spectacular. Stop by Santa’s Tiki Bar first to grab a treat to bring on the illuminated walking path. Need a refill? You can order more hot chocolate or holiday cocktails halfway along the trail.
#3. Menorah Lighting at Avalon (Alpharetta, GA)
Celebrate the first night of Chanukah with a menorah lighting at the Boulevard. The event includes festive treats and the little ones can get their picture with Hanukkah Veronica, The Mitzvah Fairy. Grab a bite to eat before the festivities kick off at one of the great restaurants at Avalon. Or stop by Jeni’s for a seasonal scoop of ice cream – the white chocolate peppermint is especially delicious.

#4. Light up the JCC (Dunwoody, GA)
Dunwoody’s Hanukkah Celebration is scheduled for December 20th in the MJCCA courtyard. In addition to the menorah lighting, you can expect Hanukkah songs, special performances and delicious doughnuts. There will also be plenty of hot chocolate to keep you warm on the chilly December night.
#5. The Annual Christmas Tree Lighting at Vinings Jubilee (Vinings, GA)
The holidays don’t start in Vinings until the annual tree lighting. Head to Tower Stage on December 1 from 6pm – 8pm to take part in the festive fun. In addition to the tree lighting, the event includes performances from the Whitefield Academy Jazz band, train rides, ornament decorating and even an appearance by Santa. Make a night of it and grab dinner at Bartaco, Stockyard Burgers & Bones or another one of the excellent eateries in Vinings Jubilee.
