Leaving Brooklyn for a Backyard

Aug 2, 2019

Sara Harari and her family make a summertime move to Westport, Connecticut

Even though their son was still in diapers, Sara Harari knew the school application process was looming—that and her son’s love of the great outdoors got her thinking about leaving Brooklyn Heights for the NYC suburbs.

“She loves being outside and we wanted a large, private and affordable backyard,” Sara explains. “We also wanted good schools without having to deal with the crazy commute or application processes in the city.”

The family started looking in early 2019, working with Suburban Jungle’s Patti Natiss. With an eye on communities with top-rated schools, low taxes and a great community vibe, Sara and her family dove into the exploration process. Patti, she adds, was always there to help and support her.

“Suburban Jungle helped us find the right town for our family, then connected us with a like-minded agent,” Sara says. The family moved to Westport, Connecticut in June 2019 and, already, is completely immersed in the community.

“Everyone is so nice,” Sara says. “Then there’s the BEACH—the beauty and the proximity!”

Overall, their transition to the suburbs has been totally seamless. “There’s a lot to do when you buy a house,” she says. Even so, she tells city families not to fear.

“Just do it!” she says. “Moving to the suburbs is so worth it. And besides, the city isn’t going anywhere. You can always visit.”

There are hundreds of towns to choose from. How do you figure it all out? You simply don’t, without getting a Suburban Jungle Strategist to help you through it all. Schedule here for your strategy session with our innovative suburbs strategy team. All services are completely free.
