How a Suburban Jungle Alum Built a Sunshine-Fueled Life (and a Brand That Saves Road Trips)
From Fort Greene, New York, to Kingston, Jamaica, to calling Boca Raton, Florida home, Suburban Jungle alum Nerissa is exactly where she hoped she’d land: outside, moving, connected, and building something for other moms.
“We’ve been here four years,” Nerissa says. “My kids started kindergarten when we moved down here, and they’re in fourth grade now. It feels like a blur in some ways… and in other ways, I feel like we’ve just enjoyed the last couple of years together, because this move has given us such a wonderful lifestyle.” More than ever, she says, the family is spending lots of time together, in the great outdoors, pools, and tennis courts. “Boca really delivered on the promise of more time in nature and more time being active…we are swimming, biking, playing tennis, playing pickleball…I’m sure my kids would name even more activities!”
Catch Nerissa’s original Suburban Jungle story: from Brooklyn to Boca, with a detour in Jamaica.
Melissa Schneider, Suburban Jungle’s Head Florida Strategist, remembers the early calls. “With Nerissa, it was crystal clear: they wanted outside, every day, without over-planning. Boca wasn’t just an address. It was a lifestyle match.”
Three Generations, Ten Minutes Apart
But the Hall’s Boca chapter was just beginning. Recently, Nerissa’s parents, who have a home in Barbados, decided a second home closer to family was a great idea for extended visits. So they called Melissa.
“That’s the latest news!” Nerissa says. “Melissa, as she does, worked her magic! My parents actually bought their house ahead of schedule and just 10 minutes away from where I live, without having to go on the highway.” And, like Nerissa, her parents are loving the time they get to spend in South Florida – and Nerissa wouldn’t have it any other way. “It’s everything for my kids to have their grandparents close by!”
“Our job isn’t just zip codes,” Melissa says. “It’s fit and feel. When we get that right, there’s this amazing ripple effect – the Halls are the perfect example.”
Moms Helping Moms: The Origin of OneTwoBlue
Her parents’ home purchase in Florida isn’t the only big news for Nerissa. Between tennis runs and school pickups, she launched OneTwoBlue, turning a universal parenting pain point into a portable fix.
“When they were little, especially, I dreaded the idea of bringing my twins to a public restroom. Juggling both of them in a less than ideal situation that’s not really made for moms and littles, is really the origin story of my brand, OneTwoBlue,” Nerissa says. “I worked in children’s television and media for 20 years, building brands for kids, and now I’m out on my own, building a brand for moms.”
The goal of OneTwoBlue? Make life easier and more stress free for parents.
“Motherhood isn’t really meant to shrink your world, it expands your world,” she says. “OneTwoBlue is here to give you cleaner, calmer ways to parent on the go – tools that turn stress into freedom.”
PocketPotty: The Tiny Thing That Saves Big Days
The first product in the OneTwoBlue collection is PocketPotty, a foldable, paper-based, leakproof, kid-sized travel potty that fits in your back pocket.
“It’s the smallest disposable kids travel potty,” Nerissa says. “It’s a waterproof, paper-based, ergonomic potty. When it’s folded up, it’s small enough to fit in your back pocket. Then, you just pop it under your kid. The liquid solidifies immediately. Then you just fold it up and toss it out.”
Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. “I’m hearing from a lot of moms that they’re using makeshift solutions and then they’re surprised to learn that something like the PocketPotty exists!” she says.
Beyond a Product: Community and Resources
OneTwoBlue is part tool, part pep talk.
“I also wrote a potty training playbook. It’s a free download on our website, OneTwoBlue.com. It’s been downloaded by over 300 parents already.” There’s also a free weekly newsletter that’s been going strong for more than 35 editions.
Together, PocketPotty and Nerissa’s free resources are designed to give parents the tools they need to feel confident and prepared. “You can say yes to the road trips, you can say yes to the beach days. You can say yes to spontaneous adventures,” she says.
Boca, By Design
This is the Suburban Jungle promise in action: not just the right house, the right life.
“That was one of our big motivators when we chose to move to South Florida – more time in nature, more time together,” Nerissa says. And the day-to-day proof is sun-drenched and simple – bikes in the driveway, grandparents 10 minutes away, and, now, a mom-centric brand born from the realities of real parenting.
