Check out these popular go-tos for some of fall’s finest local produce.
What are the best Apple picking places in Philadelphia Suburbs?
#1. Linvilla Orchards (Media, PA)
Linvilla Orchards offers pick-your-own apples through late October — but that’s just the start of their family-fun activities. Pack your fishing gear to catch trout, bass or catfish at Orchard Lake. Bring the kids to the playground to let them run around while you chat with local parents about their experience with the town. Want something a little spooky? Take the hayride to the Witch’s House for Halloween treats and tales.
If your family loves Linvilla, come back in November or December to cut your own Douglas fir Christmas tree.
#2. Indian Orchards Farm (Media, PA)
Want to make a day of your picking adventures? Visit Indian Orchards after checking out Linvilla. This top-rated pick-your-own farm is just five minutes down the road.
Indian Orchards Farm is family-owned and has been a big part of the community since 1913. During the fall, locals head here to pick organic apples or to buy figs, pears, and pumpkins from the farmstand. Kids can even host their birthday party at the farm, complete with hayrides, fruit picking, and applesauce-making.
#3. Maple Acres Farm (Plymouth Meeting, PA)
For a unique fall experience, visit the historic Maple Acres Farm. Instead of apples, your family can pick their own bouquet of colorful zinnias.
After selecting your flowers, take the kids on a hayride or visit the farmstand for apples and pumpkins. And you won’t want to leave without trying their cider donuts or caramel apples. This farm is just 15 miles north of Philadelphia and is a great addition to a day of exploring the nearby towns of Gladwyne or Bryn Mawr.
#4. Johnson’s Corner Farm (Medford, NJ)
If you’re checking out New Jersey towns, consider adding a trip to Johnson’s Corner Farm. During the fall, families can take a hayride to pick pumpkins, apples, and even sweet potatoes.
Harvest Festival weekends at the farm also include live music, a corn maze, and delicious food straight from the grill. The farm’s Discovery Barnyard is always a big hit with the littles. Let the kids pet the animals, climb rocks or take the pedal go-karts for a spin while you connect with local parents about the ins and outs of Medford.
#5. Highland Orchards (West Chester, PA)
This 200-acre farm is one of the top places around to bring the kids for a fall adventure. Make a reservation so your family can pick apples, take a hayride and visit the pumpkin patch (don’t forget your camera for those Insta-worthy shots). This farm also has a beer garden and food trucks so there really is something for everyone.
Trust us, you won’t want to leave without trying some of their famous apple cider donuts. Plus, if you move here your kids can have their birthday party on the farm. During the party, the kids can take a hayride, paint pumpkins, or visit the animals.
#6. Solebury Orchards (New Hope, PA)
About 45 miles north of Philadelphia is the 80-acre Solebury Orchards. Throughout the summer, you can pick blueberries, blackberries, and flowers. But locals especially love to head here in the autumn months for apple picking.
This orchard grows 20 varieties of apples so check the website to see what is available before your visit. After picking apples, bring the kids to the pumpkin patch. And don’t miss the chance to sample their delicious apple cider and donuts.
