Take a Holiday Food Tour of Long Island

Dec 16, 2021

Pick up a festive treat (or two) while you explore the Long Island suburbs.

Long Island is an amazing spot for foodies — especially during the holidays. Many of our favorite bakeries, farm stands, and shops whip up once-a-year treats that we can’t wait to bring home. While you’re exploring, swing through these must-try hotspots and be sure to snag their signature seasonal goodies. Enjoy!

#1. Blacksmith’s Bread (Long Beach)
This laid-back cafe, started by two surfing buddies, is a Long Beach staple all year long. But when the holidays roll around, locals head here specifically for the Brie and Apple Studded Brioche and Chocolate Babka. These pastries are only available at the store on a first-come-first-serve basis so try to get here early before they are gone.

If you need a little pick-me-up to continue exploring Long Beach, grab a spiced hot chocolate or latte to go.

#2. Copenhagen Bakery (Northport)
Flemming Hansen, a baker born in Denmark, created this Long Island pastry shop more than 20 years ago and it’s been a hit ever since. The bakery gets authentic ingredients shipped in from Denmark to preserve the true flavor of the pastries. Get a taste for yourself by trying their iconic holiday treat, the Buche de Noel. This “yule log cake” is a traditional dessert across Europe and now, thanks to this bakery, in Northport, too.

And if your family decides to call Northport home, keep this bakery in mind for future celebrations. They also make custom birthday, graduation and baby shower cakes.

#3. Saint Honore Pastry Shop (Port Washington)
This Port Washington bakery has a tempting pastry case filled with cookies, scones and pies. But once the holiday season starts, locals know it’s time to get their orders in for one of Saint Honore’s famous winter cakes. One of the top options is their cute igloo and penguin cake complete with a delicious s’mores filling.

But the festive fun doesn’t stop there. They also sell pre-made gingerbread houses on a first-come-first-serve basis.

#4. Youngs Farm (Old Brookville)
For many Old Brookville locals, the holidays aren’t complete without a dessert from Youngs Farm on their table. Holiday orders start at the beginning of December, so make sure to put yours in early to avoid disappointment. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, but a few highlights include the Christmas wreath cake, cranberry nut pie and chocolate almond torte.

Throughout the year, Youngs Farm is also a go-to for seasonal produce, fresh-cut flowers and 4th of July pies.

#5. Milleridge Inn Bakery (Jericho)
The Milleridge Inn and Shops turn into a Christmas wonderland this time of year. Take the kids for a stroll through the charming colonial-era-inspired village and see how many unique decorations they can spot. While you’re here, you’ll also want to stop by the festive bakery for a holiday treat or two. Snowflake cookies and holiday versions of their classic black and white cookies are what keep locals coming back year after year.

#6. Wonderful Wedding Cakes (Locust Valley)
While this isn’t a storefront option, you can still pick up a homemade cake during your suburbs search. Check out their holiday-themed menu or order a custom cake (locals know this is a great option for holiday parties). Their reindeer cakes, Christmas tree cupcakes and gingerbread cookies are adorable. You’ll just need to order in advance to get the treats you want for the holidays.
