These towns are a quick commute to Oracle—and offer some unbeatable amenities

Working for a Silicon Valley tech company means you spend your days immersed in a high-energy environment. However, Oracle is based in a calm, quiet neighborhood compared to some of the other Bay Area businesses. Living in Redwood City, you’ll have a quick commute and can enjoy an escape from the typical hustle of Silicon Valley. If you want to live a bit farther from the office, there are still some great options surrounding Redwood City. Each offers something unique—from waterfront jogging trails to quirky local eateries. Keep reading to learn more about the best neighborhoods with easy commutes to Oracle.

Redwood City

For a convenient commute, highly-rated schools and a family-friendly environment, Redwood City is the place to be. It’s a comfortable town that is more affordable than many of the neighborhoods in the area. Residents take advantage of the year-round Mediterranean climate by boating in the bay or hiking in the Edgewood Park & Natural Preserve (this is especially beautiful during wildflower season). During the summer, locals also spend Saturday mornings shopping for fresh produce at the open-air farmers market. Plus, you won’t have to travel to another town for entertainment. Downtown has a renovated movie theater and some excellent restaurants—Vesta and Milagros Latin Kitchen are two popular options with sidewalk seating.

Redwood Shores

This small, waterfront community in Redwood City is perfect for those interested in luxury living outside of the Silicon Valley bubble. Here, you can enjoy the best of both worlds—a short commute to the office and the benefits of being surrounded by nature. Most Redwood Shores homes feature a scenic view of the bay and the town is filled with jogging trails and leafy parks. It’s also close to the Bair Island State Marine Park which is a popular spot for kayaking and hiking. In addition to the picturesque surroundings, this community is known for its great school system. Parents are very active and there are tons of ways to get involved, which means you’ll have no problem building a social network.

Foster City

Families and young professionals love this lively, community-focused neighborhood. Foster City offers all of the essentials of a pleasant suburb—top schools, convenient shopping choices and plenty of kid-friendly entertainment options. This safe waterfront suburb is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. Foster City features miles of jogging trails, more than a dozen parks and a lagoon that travels throughout the entire town (you are never more than 10 minutes from an excellent place to kayak). During the spring and summer, parks are often filled with residents enjoying a concert or festival. You’ll only spend about half an hour each day on your commute, which means you have extra time to enjoy the city’s amenities.

San Carlos

Dubbed “The City of Good Living”, San Carlos is great for young families interested in a slower pace of life. This sleepy town has everything you need, including grocery stores (hello Trader Joes and Bianchini’s Market), an easy commute to Oracle, local restaurants and easy access to hiking areas. But, it also offers a small-town feel and you won’t have to deal with traffic during your morning bike rides. There’s always something going on, from picnics in Burton Park to holiday festivals like the Hometown Days celebration. Don’t be surprised when you run into a friend or two as you run errands along Laurel Street—most locals enjoy this strong sense of community.

San Mateo

This diverse suburb is conveniently located in the middle of the Bay Area. Not only will you relish the short commute to Oracle, but it’s also halfway between both San Jose and San Francisco (and even closer to the San Francisco International Airport). Besides the location, locals love that San Mateo is laid back and a great place to raise a family. The welcoming neighbors will quickly make you feel like a part of the community. There are tons of kid-friendly events throughout the year, including the beloved annual San Mateo County Fair. Residents are active and weekends are often spent swimming and cycling in the Coyote Point Rec Area or strolling in Central Park.

Castro Valley

Castro Valley is a quirky family-focused neighborhood with a strong community spirit—and, for many families, it’s a more affordable option than many other popular ‘burbs. When families aren’t volunteering with the local mom’s club or cheering on their kids at a soccer game, they are usually enjoying the nearby Lake Chabot Regional Park. This lush natural area is the perfect spot for biking, fishing, kayaking and picnicking. This hamlet also boasts a highly-rated school system and a charming downtown. Plus, you won’t have to travel far to run errands—Trader Joes, Safeway and TJ Maxx all have locations in Castro Valley. This is just a quick look at some of the incredible neighborhoods with a quick, convenient commute to Oracle.
