Head to the Chicago Suburbs This Weekend!

Check out these family-friendly activities—and amazing communities.

 

There’s no better way to explore the suburbs than by spending your weekend living like a local—and these events and activities are a great way to start. 

 

 

Winnetka

Enjoy a storytime with author Claudia Guadalupe Martinez at The Book Stall from 10:30am-11:15am on Saturday. She’ll be readying her new book, “Not a Bean,” about Mexican jumping beans.

 

 

Barrington

The Wickstrom Lincoln Ice Rink is celebrating the launch of its 2019-20 season with a holiday festival at 11am on Saturday. Enjoy a day of ice skating, professional performances, holiday festivities and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus at 5:30pm.

 

 

Lake Forest

Get a head start on your holiday shopping at the French Market, open Friday from 10am-6pm and Saturday from 10am-4pm at the Lake Forest Rec Center. It’s free, and there will be live music, food and stalls featuring jewelry, paintings, ornaments and other unique items.

 

 

Naperville

Meet Pete the Cat at the DuPage Children’s Museum from 7:30am-9:00am on Saturday. Tickets are $25 and include a photo op with Pete, admission to the museum, storytime and a hot breakfast. Register now.

 

 

La Grange

Be an environmental steward and help clean up the Lake Michigan shoreline at Bob Mann Woods on Saturday. Meet at 10am to pick up garbage and remove invasive species.

 

 

Highland Park

WeOrbit, an indoor play space in Highland Park, has play areas for infants, toddlers and children—and it’s the perfect place to burn off some energy on a chilly November morning. Plus, it has free WiFi and coffee. It’s open from 8:30am-12:30pm on the weekend. Admission is $14 for your first child and $8 for each additional child.

 

 

Glen Ellyn

Spend some time outdoors this weekend by visiting Willowbrook Forest Preserve, a 47.5-acre green space in Glen Ellyn that has nature trails and an outdoor wildlife exhibit. While you’re there, stop by the wildlife center to learn about wildlife and check in on baby animals in the nursery.

 

 

Lincolnshire

The Vernon Area Library is featuring a Mini Comic Con from 10am-3pm on Saturday. There will be a craft section, photo booth, robotics lab and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Tournament. Or, get tickets for “Madagascar – A Musical Adventure” at 10am on Saturday. They’re $15.23.

 

 

Northbrook

Nickel City in Northbrook is a win-win for parents and children. You can play dozens of games for only a nickel plus enjoy free play Pacman, Street Fighter and other classics. It’s open from 10am-1am on Saturday and 10am-10pm on Sunday.

 

 

Glenview

Meet Anna and Elsa at Learning Express on Saturday. It’s free and they’ll be visiting from 12pm-1pm.
