Family-Friendly Fun in the NYC Suburbs This Weekend!

Summer may be winding down, but fun in the NYC suburbs continues!


Summer is a great time to explore the NYC suburbs. Check out these family-friendly events and activities happening all weekend long — and plan to get an insider look at what life could be like once you make the leap.

There’s a free jazz concert accompanied by French food and drink specials from 6pm-9pm on Wednesday. Don’t forget a blanket or chairs and some snacks for the kids!



Enjoy a free summer concert starring the Chappaqua Orchestra at 7pm on Wednesday. On Sunday, tour Pruyn Sanctuary and its enchanting butterfly and hummingbird garden from 1pm-3pm.



The family-friendly Westchester Splash & Dash swim-run is at 9am on Saturday. Also, check out the Rye farmers’ market happening 8:30am-2pm on Sunday.


Rye Brook

Take a time out from 1pm-7pm during the Beyond Spirits art, spirit and soul event in nearby Port Chester on Saturday. Families will enjoy live music, performances, a craft fair and spiritual artwork.



Join in the ultimate dance party for kids and families on Friday from 5:00pm-9:30pm. The festivities start at Armonk Square at 5:00pm, followed by a free concert at Wampus Brook Park at 7:30pm.



Enjoy the great outdoors this weekend with a trip to the Trailside Nature Museum. Learn about local Native American history, play with kid-friendly displays and see how many butterfly species you can find in the meadow.



Learn about the herb of the month — basil — during the John Jay Homestead’s Herb Garden Day from 10am-2pm on Saturday. The event coincides with the homestead’s Farm Market.



Crunchy Crocs and Friends will be celebrating the end of summer with activities for kids ages 2-6 from 11am-12pm on Saturday at Anderson’s Books. Follow it up with a trip to Glen Island Park and its stunning beach in nearby New Rochelle.




The Mamaroneck Public Library’s children’s storytime is 11am-11:30am on Saturday followed by crafts starting at 11:30am.



Party in Hyatt Park to the tune of live music, ice cream and face painting until 6pm on Friday. On Sunday, the Greenburgh Nature Center is hosting an education session and snack time focused on snakes and lizards from 1pm-2pm.



The Road to Freedom Walk is 1pm-4pm in Dobbs Ferry. Come out for a historical reenactment and drum session at 1pm, followed colonial games and herb lessons at 2pm.



The Pleasantville Farmers Market has been voted the Best of Westchester for six years running. The market is open from 8:30am-1pm on Saturday, and you’ll find everything from heirloom tomatoes to kids events.


Briarcliff Manor

Watch a free concert in Law Park from 7pm-9pm on Thursday. On Saturday, visit Teatown Lake Reservation in Ossining at 10am for a fun-filled experience focused on frogs.





Grab blankets and a picnic dinner and head to Eisenhower Park for a free showing of “Small Foot” at 8pm on Thursday.


Port Washington

North Hempstead Beach Park’s BeachFeast is 12pm-5pm on Saturday. Check out local vendors, activities, food and tons of fun for all ages.


Sea Cliff

The Rusty String will be hosting a free summer concert at Sea Cliff Beach from 7pm-10pm on Friday. Get there early to score a great spot on the sand.



Make a free craft at the Lakeshore Learning Center from 11am-3pm on Saturday. This week’s project is a beautiful sun-inspired lantern.




Short Hills

Design a one-of-a-kind kite from 3pm-5pm on Saturday at the Macy’s in Short Hills, then hit a local park and let it fly!



The Westfield Street Fair and Craft Show is 11am-5pm on Saturday. Meet local vendors and crafters and grab a few last-minute goodies just in time for back to school.



Explore Montclair’s charming Church Street and enjoy live music during the Center Stage Music Series on Saturday evening.


West Orange

Enjoy a free movie at the Turtle Back Zoo from 8pm-10:30pm on Wednesday. On Saturday, shop for local produce and meet some locals during the West Orange Farmers Market from 9am-2pm.



Pick peaches from 10am-3pm on Saturday and Sunday at Demarest Farms. And get ready — this kicks off a ton of fall pick-your-own opportunities at the farm!



There’s something for EVERYONE at the Essex County South Mountain Recreation Complex, including an amazing playground, paddle boats, carousel, restaurant and the Turtle Back Zoo.



The Summit Street Fair is 11am-5pm on Sunday. Come out for live music, games, rides, food and other festivities.





Melissa & Doug is sponsoring a free children’s concert at the Levitt Pavilion at 7pm on Wednesday. This week, soak up the sunshine while fishing, picnicking and learning about wildlife at Sherwood Island State Park and Nature Center.



Visit The Corbin District for a free summer concert from 6pm-8:30pm on Friday. This week’s band is Sugar Bear.



On Saturday at 1pm, bring your little explorers to the Bruce Museum for “Bruce Explorers Get Hands on with Shark Science.” Kids can investigate shark teeth and learn more about these underwater creatures.


New Canaan

The Wilton Food Truck Festival is on Saturday from 11am-7pm. Come enjoy food from new local food trucks and area favorites.



Drop in for a fun 45-minute program at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center this weekend. The facility feeds river otters daily at 1pm, is hosting a scavenger hunt on Saturday and a meet and greet with wild animals on Sunday.



The Maritime Museum in Norwalk has lots to see and do, including Seal Training Demos at 11:45am, 1:45pm and 3:45pm every day.
