In 2020 and 2021, the real estate market turned upside-down. If you were in it – searching, selling, buying, even living in the suburbs already – you know exactly what we’re talking about.

- People expanded their searches in big ways.
- We all evaluated – and re-evaluated – where we wanted to call “home,” now and in the future.
And while many of our clients wound up making moves during peak pandemic, lots didn’t. In fact, 39% of our active clients right now came to Suburban Jungle in 2021 or earlier.
As we continue those conversations, we’re hearing a lot – specifically, why these prospective buyers opted to hang tight (or what they did while waiting for the market to cool). We’ve also heard over and over how life has changed – and steadied – more recently and, with it, these city dwellers are ready to dive back in and find their new town to call home.
And we’re here for it.
“My clients tend to feel more settled now,” says Allison Levine, NYC Strategist. “First, everyone was working from home every day and people were casting wide nets – moving out of state or out of the country, even, because they could.”
With so many people working from home, these years were a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for many Suburban Jungle clients – suddenly, they could work from anywhere.
“Then people got called back to the office,” Alli says. “Now, many seem to feel more established in their routines – the number of days they need to be in the city, their schedules, and things like that. With this clarity, now they’re ready to make a permanent move.”

With a better sense of schedules, commitments, and what comes next, people can better focus on their suburban search – and they’re ready.
“Everyone’s looking for a lifestyle,” Alli says. “That’s so different from client to client. But people are coming to the conversation ready to find that sense of community and value you can only find in the suburbs.”
And the market seems to be in their favor. While there were some initial concerns when rates increased recently, we’re nowhere near historic highs.
And for us, we’re thrilled to see so many of our long-standing clients back actively searching. We’ve been here, helping support their journey from the city to the suburbs – whether that means exploring outside their immediate city limits or virtually searching from halfway around the world. And we’ll continue to be here until they find “home.”
